Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on the 24th of August, 1972. DuVernay had a close relationship with her aunt Denise she urged DuVernay to become creative and inspired by art. The aunt she had was a nurse who worked shifts at night so that she could dedicate her day to art literature theatre, and various other pursuits. She showed DuVernay the 1961 film West Side Story and DuVernay was captivated by it. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that art could serve as an instrument for activism. DuVernay was also taught by her mother who had a strong moral compass and urged DuVernay to exhibit her artistic talents. Although DuVernay lived in Compton with her family, she always spent summers with her family in Lowndes County Alabama where her parents lived for many generations. The father of DuVernay's reminiscences was the civil rights marches over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the nearby town of Selma, Alabama. DuVernay used the time that she spent in the state to stimulate her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the year 1990, DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. After graduation she was enrolled at her first year at the University of California Los Angeles where she earned diplomas in English and African American studies. DuVernay began producing content to broadcast journalism while she was in her college. She was an intern with CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given the task of watching the residence and scrutinizing the rubbish of one jurors. Her tasks left her disappointed by journalism and she chose to move towards the publicity business. DuVernay started her career working as a junior press assistant in a tiny film studio following her graduation from college. She launched in 1999 her own firm of public relations, dubbed The DuVernay Agency. In addition to PR her agency also established a range of lifestyle and promotional networks including those like the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
